Musk wants Twitter DMs to have end-to-end encryption

Since he took over Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk hasn’t stopped posting. Because he owns the platform, he has every motivation to tweet. In addition to a few other improvements, Musk has stated that he wants to see end-to-end encryption implemented for Twitter Direct Messages (DMs). Musk wants end-to-end encryption for Twitter direct messages (DMs) so that no one can monitor your Twitter communications.

Like Signal, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants Twitter DMs to be encrypted end-to-end. End-to-end encryption is also available on WhatsApp, but Musk opted for Signal instead. As a matter of fact, Musk had stated in a previous tweet that Signal should be preferred over WhatsApp. One of the reasons why he chooses Signal over WhatsApp is because he has a long-standing fight with Zuckerberg over Facebook’s security standards.

According to Musk’s tweet from Thursday, “Twitter Direct Chats should have end-to-end encryption like Signal so no one can snoop on or hijack your messages.” After Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s tweet, a well-known tipster, Jane Manchun Wong, disclosed that Twitter had previously been discovered working on encrypted DMs in 2018.

When it comes to encryption, what exactly is “end-to-end?”

End-to-end encryption prevents a third party from seeing the contents of talks between two persons. Receivers have the ability to decode data that has been encrypted on the sending device. Internet service providers, application service providers, cyber thieves, and others cannot see or interfere with the message while it is being transmitted and received. As an example, only the sender and recipient of a WhatsApp conversation may access the talks. WhatsApp cannot read these messages.

Some Twitter users have voiced worry that their direct messages are no longer secure after Musk assumed control of the platform. Musk’s latest post regarding encryption may have been a response to Twitter users who were concerned about the encryption of their direct messages.
