Apple may shift from Lightning technology to USB-C for charging

Apple Charging: For a long time, Apple has come under fire for not including a USB-C port on its iPhones. Even regulators in Europe and elsewhere have slammed it for doing the same. Apple’s proprietary Lightning port is still present on the iPhone and its accessories, but that could alter in the future. However, not in the near future. Not just the iPhone, but even the AirPods and MagSafe charging cases could get the USB-C treatment in the near future.

In the future, Apple may switch from Lightning to USB-C for charging and data transfer ports on its accessories, as well as the iPhone, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It would be one of the most significant modifications to Apple devices, notably the iPhone if it is true, Though the iPad and Mac now have USB-C connectors, it is interesting that Apple has resisted switching over its Lightning connector for USB-C technology on the iPhone, AirPods, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Mouse.

Kuo’s prediction is good news for those who struggle to find charging cables that are compatible with their iPhone or AirPods when they don’t have the one that came with their devices. However, don’t get too enthusiastic just yet.. yet.. Kuo thinks it will take some time for the change to take place. USB-C will be widely used “in the not-too-distant future,” according to him. This means that the iPhone and other accessories will not be getting a USB-C port any time soon. Previously, Kuo predicted that the Lightning connector would be phased out by 2023, which suggests that the iPhone and other Apple products might continue to use the Lightning technology for the foreseeable future.

Apple’s transition to USB-C will likewise be difficult. Even though third-party cable and accessory manufacturers don’t use Lightning as often as they do USB-C, the technology is relatively widespread among them. Because an iPhone or AirPods with a USB-C connection will not accept any previously developed accessories, Apple must first inform and check the viability of these manufacturers for USB-C technology. Because all iPhones use the same charging mechanism, the attachment works with all of them right now.

An overhauled design and a notch-free iPhone are expected from Apple this year, with a punch-hole replacing the notch. The iPhone 14, as it’s currently known, is expected to have a larger screen with narrower bezels, as well as better camera sensors. The Lightning port may remain intact if those are the only changes made to the iPhone later this year.
