Launch of iPhone 14 Delayed due to lockdown in China

At an event that is scheduled to take place in September, Apple is anticipated to present the iPhone 14 series, in addition to the AirPods Pro 2 and new Apple Watches. However, it appears that these intentions have been derailed in some way. Because to the widespread implementation of Covid lockdowns across China, a recent report suggests that Apple suppliers in that nation are falling behind the timetable for the creation of the iPhone 14 series. In other headlines connected to this topic, it has been speculated that the iPhone 14 Pro will use an improved ProMotion display screen, which may or may not be able to enable the Always On Display functionality.

According to a report by Nikkei Asia, Apple has reportedly requested that the Chinese suppliers working on the iPhone 14 series speed up their development work in order to maintain their manufacturing timeline.

According to reports, the two key suppliers for the future iPhone series are going to be Foxconn and Pegatron. As an additional piece of news, Luxshare Precision reportedly secured some orders to provide two of the four iPhone 14 series models. According to the research, these firms are experiencing negative effects as a result of the delay in the reopening of plants in China, particularly in and around Shanghai, which is being attributed to the lockdowns that have been implemented by Covid. It is anticipated that Apple might lose as much as $8 billion (or approximately Rs. 62,097 crore) in sales if this delay causes disruption to the manufacturing schedule.

The engineering verification test (EVT) step is typically considered to be reached by all new iPhone models by the month of June. According to the rumour, at least one of the models in Apple’s iPhone 14 series is at least three weeks behind schedule in its production. Apple had anticipated entering the manufacturing stage somewhere between the end of August and the beginning of September. Despite this, it is believed that China’s whole supply chain is still in the process of recuperating from the consequences of the lockdowns.

In related news, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young stated in a tweet that the iPhone 14 Pro is likely to feature an upgraded ProMotion display panel, which is said to drop to 1Hz refresh rate. Young’s tweet was in response to rumours that the refresh rate of the iPhone 14 Pro would increase to 120Hz. Because of this, it’s possible that this smartphone will be able to support the Always On Display feature and provide longer battery life as a result. In contrast, the ProMotion display found in the iPhone 13 Pro series is capable of supporting refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
