Windows 10 22H2 has been verified by Microsoft in an unofficial capacity. According to references found in the recent optional update (KB5015684) for the OS, this might be the next feature upgrade and it will begin trickling out to users in a few months.
Even while Windows 11 and Windows 12 have been the focus of attention, the firm hasn’t forgotten about Windows 10, as we revealed earlier this year. In the fall, the old operating system will receive its own feature upgrade.
As of today, Windows 10 KB5015684, which appeared in the Windows Insider Program, discreetly changes the OS version from “21H2” to “22H2. Windows 10 Build 19045 has been noticed under the ‘About’ section of the Windows Settings page, as shown in the picture below.
Windows 10 Version 19045
Windows 10 21H2 and Windows 10 22H2 were virtually indistinguishable in our tests. If this is really the case, it appears to be a modest upgrade that will be handed out via an enablement package that doesn’t make any huge announcements on the consumer side.
Enabling Windows 10 22H2 with the flip of a switch will be possible later this year, according to Microsoft executives, who previously stated that enablement package upgrades will only arrive with a “scoped set of functionality.”
There is a substantially faster installation procedure if you’re using Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, so you’ll be up and running with Windows 10 version 22H2 in no time. As a result, all of 22H2’s features may be found in the latest feature and cumulative upgrades that were issued following the previous version (v2004).
However, the 22H2 changelog has not yet been released, although many of the changes are likely to be of interest to commercial or business customers. Minor bug fixes, enhanced security features, and other enhancements are on the way for customers.
Later this year, Windows 11 will receive its first significant feature upgrade, code-named ‘Sun Valley 2’ or version 22H2. Improved Start menu customization options are also expected to be included in the next release.
In 2024, Microsoft is expected to release Windows 12 as the next major version of Windows 11. It’s due to Microsoft’s intention to introduce a new Windows version every three years, along with smaller feature improvements for current versions.
Windows 11 will keep getting new features for the foreseeable future. Eventually. There will be big changes in Windows 12 when it is released. As long as Microsoft continues in the same path, Windows 13 will also be around in 10 years.
