Today we’re celebrating 15 years year anniversary of OneDrive. We’d appreciate taking a moment to express our gratitude for your use of OneDrive for whatever you’re doing, whether it’s the biggest task at work or planning a family get-together or backing up important files onto your new device or connecting with family and family through videos and photos.
OneDrive A brief history
Our story began in August 2007, when Microsoft first announced its cloud storage platform that allows users to transfer and sync their files on the cloud. Just a little over an month later we introduced the ability to access and store photos and videos, too. The first five years were about keeping up with the growth in our market and the increasing number of businesses that transferred their collaboration and productivity solutions to cloud computing with Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office 365) and as people started using their mobile devices to manage everything from personal pictures to their email for work and even files.
The amount of information – both personal and professional that is online was beginning to increase by leaps and increments We continued to work to improve the way people manage their files as well as work with other users.
For those who live outside of the office, we have introduced options that offer users security. With features such as backup of the camera roll or PC’s folder backup you don’t have to fret about your personal device being damaged or destroyed as your files are safe through the cloud. If you were the victim of an attack of malicious intent or required to retrieve deleted files accidentally We’re here for you in that regard too. We also realized that , for those important personal files that you required an additional layer of protection and the possibility of accessing the files from anywhere. So in 2019 , we introduced Personal Vault.
Since the year 2016, Gartner(r) has identified Microsoft as a leading company on the Content Services Platforms Magic Quadrant. The benefit OneDrive can provide has grown beyond “you can share files” into “you have the ability to work with your team members as well as external colleagues easily and safely across all forms of factors, including desktop mobile, web, and desktop.” Over the last few years OneDrive have seen its monthly active user count increase by around 240 percent. Additionally, Microsoft customers like Expedia Group, Nestle, GAP Inc. as well as Ecolab use OneDrive to depend on OneDrive to guarantee secure collaboration and high productivity to their workers in the emerging digital world of work that is hybrid.
We are extremely proud of the way our products continue to evolve. OneDrive has grown into the primary platform that powers all of the file experiences in Microsoft 365. We are thankful to you, our customers for the continuous feedback and the support we receive in order to help us create sharing and collaboration within OneDrive the best experience you can get.
We’re thrilled to offer additional features that will allow you to gain access to everything you require no matter if you’re working by yourself on a project or with your colleagues or sharing photos or videos to your loved ones.
The OneDrive Home experience is now available. OneDrive Home experience
We’ve updated the OneDrive Home experience to let you get back to work, and catch up on the things you missed while you were absent. In the near future, OneDrive will surface your most important files and display the most recent ones as well as any activity updates so that you can view everything at a glance , and quickly decide where you should start working.
We’ve changed the Recent view into OneDrive Home. This will mean that at the beginning of the day, or when you start your day, you can access the files you’ll need to tackle first. Are you working on a product launch guide you need to finish or a customer’s roadmap that you’ve sent to your team to get their feedback? You can now filter the list by the type of file (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx and .pdf) by clicking the buttons located at near the bottom of the Recent List of Files. Click the Word button to go to the launch guide and add the final details.
Through OneDrive You can use OneDrive to access all collaboration tools that will help you and your team produce excellent results such as threaded comment @mentions, real-time coauthoring and highlighted edits. To make sure that you’re in the loop in these areas we’re adding an Activity column within OneDrive which displays the latest, unnoticed changes and comments made to the documents you share.
The Activity column can also be seen in the My Files view, which displays all shares, @mentions and comments and tasks that have been assigned to collaborators. You can also find out which reviewers have left comments to you for you to address.
If, for instance, the team is working to create an white paper to promote the launch of a new product It’s possible to review in the Activity column to look for any comments or edits which require your attention, or anyone else you’ll need remind to take action on.
To make it easier to locate and access the locations where you are working You can pin your document libraries to the Quick access section of the left navigation area of OneDrive Home.
OneDrive Home is expected to be accessible in the next few months. This new user experience for users of OneDrive for the web will be available to OneDrive for school and work users.
