Android 13 date of release
Android 13 began rolling out to Pixel devices on the 15th of August, 2022. However, this doesn’t mean that all Pixel users got the update that day. It’s almost three days since the announcement of the release however, I’m still waiting for the update to arrive. Pixel 6 Pro has yet to be updated with this OTA (over-the-air) upgrade. It’s possible to sideload the update however, as I’ve learned through the years, that this is not always the best way to ensure a successful upgrade.
But, Android 13 has officially been released and is scheduled to be released on supported Pixel devices in the first place. The that are supported Pixel phones will include everything from Pixel 4 up. If you’re a Pixel 1, 2 or 3 owner you should upgrade to Android 13.
Search in the launcher has been improved
The feature will likely be restricted to Pixel phones and is an important enhancement to the current search engine. With the updated capabilities the users can now make searches:
Actions on devices
Apps from the Play Store
YouTube
Google
There will also be a gesture-based part of the search that reacts differently dependent upon whether you swipe up at the top or press the search button. Users can also save search results to the Android Home screen.
New notifications
Notifications also get additional attention thanks to an opt-in system that is new. Since Android 13 and later, the system won’t allow apps to send notifications, unless the user has explicitly granted permission. When a new app is installed, once it first opens it will display a permissions prompt. show (Figure A) which will ask users to either allow or block notifications for the application.
