She requested only the refund of $100.

The cryptocurrency trading website Crypto.com sued an Australian woman for transferring $10.5 million instead of the $100 reimbursement she demanded.

According to 7News reports(Opens in an entirely New window) (via Decrypt(Opens within the New window)), Thevamanogari Manivel demanded a refund of $100 in May of this year however, Crypto.com paid $10.5 million to the account of her instead. Why is that? Because the person who was responsible for the refund made a mistake and put an account number in the field for payment.

The error was not discovered for seven months, until an audit was completed through the business in the month of December. In the meantime, Manivel treated the millions as a gift , and transferred $10.1 million to another account, and then utilized $1.35 million to buy five bedrooms located in Craigieburn, Victoria for her sister Thilagavathy Gangadory.

Legal action was taken through Crypto.com in an effort to retrieve the funds. To date the Victoria’s Supreme Court has ruled that the property has to be sold and the profits that are generated from it returned to company. Should Manivel as well as her sibling do not comply with the court’s order, they could be found guilty of contempt of the court and the sale will be arranged separately.

The legal fight is scheduled to go on until October and will continue through October, with Crypto.com refusing to discuss further. It’s not clear at the moment what percentage of the funds Manivel has left and whether the company can be successful in recovering all of it even if they succeed in winning the court case.
