Honda has not yet revealed whether other Honda vehicles will get Google-integrated. Although the automaker has used some custom, now obsolete, embedded Android software in its vehicles before, it hasn’t yet benefited from many of Google’s services. With Google integrated, the Accord’s navigation will now be Google Maps. The Google Assistant can also be used to control heating or cooling. And music from the Google Play App is only a tap away.
Two screens will be available on the new Accord Touring: a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3 inch center screen. This is the largest infotainment screen Honda ever made. It is also larger than the 9.2-inch screen in Volvo’s XC40, which runs Android Automotive. The Touring model will feature 15W wireless charging for smartphones, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, Android Auto and CarPlay, as well as a 6-inch head-up display.
The new Honda vehicle OTA update feature features will “add function two or three years after it has been sold,” said American Honda VP and Energy Jay Joseph to Automotive News. Joseph stated that it can “really change the dynamics of ownership and the used-vehicle marketplace.”
