This could be a sign of the homescreen features to come. Apple is now the time to allow us to customize the homescreen of iPhone.
The year 2022 was when Apple launched iOS 16 that brought massively improved lock screenswhich made the iPhone even better.
With iOS 16 you can set up items on the lock screen including different clock fonts as well as lock screen widgets and even new wallpapers, with only a couple of taps. If I’m looking for me to paint my iPhone new paint I can do this on the same screen I get each time I turn on my phone, without the need to go into settings. Plus as you begin making a wallpaper, you will see many ideas and suggestions to help you choose what the wallpaper will look like.
Are you looking for a lock screen that is focused to the time of the day? Apple has a suggestion for you. Do you want a trendy design of emojis? There are plenty of designs to choose from as well as Apple allows you to use at least six distinct emojis on your wallpaper. (Might I suggest the emojis waffle or yawn?) If you’re really looking to look fancy, you can change the wallpaper of your iPhone to in a rotational gallery of positive vibes.
Personally, I am a fan of Apple’s wallpaper options which fill the background with the color or shade. My background usually has an ombre color or shade but in my past I’ve had to resort to searching the internet to find attractive wallpapers, but they often were not quite what I wanted. Today, I can choose from a wide range of hues right in the wallpaper menu, alter the degree of the gradient and play around with various shades.
In addition, you can now connect backgrounds to Focus modes to create various moods. I have a soothing blue wallpaper that is attached to my “Vacation” Focus mode, which reminds me to unwind. My coworker Victoria Song set an image of the “This is Fine” dog to use in her Focus mode whenever things aren’t going well.
What are the homescreens?
Like my coworker Allison Johnson wrote, the new iOS 16 lock screens have been a major change. Now that Apple has given up control over its lock screens, it’s the right time to ask Apple to offer us more tools to personalize the home screen.
What if we were able to easily alter the iconography of apps? It is indeed possible to do this today, but it will require some effort. Although you can use our easy guide but I’d prefer something more similar to the straightforward themes you have on Android. I personally don’t want to create a totally distinct theme. I’m not trying to make Windows-like my iPhone I’d want to see everything in similar colors to match my wallpapers with gradients.
I’m also looking for more ways to arrange my icons. I usually keep about three to four rows my home screen with apps and move everything else in an App Library. (No Widgets, for methey’re not to be very useful.) However, it would be fantastic for me to place my homescreen apps to the lower part on the display instead the top, without creating extra spaces with custom widgets or icons that are invisible to the user.
In the year 2020, my former colleague Chaim Gartenberg suggested that Apple likely won’t ever offer us icons that we can customize for our apps. In the past I was completely in agreement with his opinion. However, since Apple has opened its doors by releasing iOS 16 and its excellent lock screen tools, I think that in the near future, Apple will make it much simpler to alter the items on our home screens and more. We’re hoping in the direction of iOS 17.
