PS5 vs PS5 Pro in India (2026): Price, Specs and Which One Should You Buy?

Published:

Quick answer: For almost every Indian gamer in late 2026, the PS5 Slim is the console to buy. The PS5 Pro is clearly more powerful (Sony says up to 45% faster rendering and 2-3x faster ray tracing), but Sony has still not launched it officially in India. That means you can only get it as a grey-market import, usually for ₹80,000 or more, with no Sony India warranty. Meanwhile PS5 Slim prices in India have also gone up a lot in 2026, so it is worth knowing exactly what you are paying for before you buy.

Below we compare both consoles on specs, real-world benefits, India pricing and warranty, and tell you who should pick which one.

PS5 vs PS5 Pro: Price in India (October 2026)

Console Official India status Price you will see now
PS5 Slim Disc Edition (1TB) Officially sold by Sony India MRP was ₹54,990 for most of 2026; Amazon.in now lists it at around ₹69,985
PS5 Slim Digital Edition (1TB) Officially sold by Sony India Around ₹65,000 on Amazon.in (stock comes and goes)
PS5 Pro (2TB, no disc drive) Not launched in India Grey-market imports, usually ₹80,000 to over ₹1 lakh
Disc drive add-on (for Digital and Pro) Sold separately Around ₹13,500 on Amazon.in

What happened to prices? Sony raised PS5 prices worldwide in April 2026, blaming the global economy and rising memory chip costs. In the US the PS5 Pro now costs $899.99, the disc PS5 $649.99 and the Digital Edition $599.99. In India, retail listings jumped around mid-2026. There was no PS5 discount in this year’s Great Indian Festival sale. Flipkart sometimes still shows older prices (₹49,990 to ₹54,990), but stock there is patchy, so check the seller and warranty before you pay.

Back in 2024 we covered the PS5 Slim’s India launch and pricing. Compared with that, today’s prices are a big jump.

One correction to older reports you may still find online: the PS5 Pro does not have a 33 TFLOPS GPU or a faster new CPU. The CPU is the same 8-core Zen 2 design, and the big upgrade is the GPU, the faster memory and the AI upscaler.

What the PS5 Pro Actually Changes in Games

1. Sharper image at the same frame rate

On a normal PS5, many games make you choose between a “Fidelity” mode (sharper, 30 FPS) and a “Performance” mode (60 FPS, softer image). The Pro’s main job is to give you closer to the best of both: 60 FPS with a much cleaner 4K image. Games that get a free patch for this carry the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label.

2. PSSR AI upscaling

PSSR is Sony’s own AI upscaler, similar in idea to NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. The game renders at a lower resolution and the console rebuilds a sharper 4K image. It only works in games that support it, and quality depends on how well each developer has used it.

3. Better ray tracing

Sony says ray tracing runs 2-3x faster on the Pro. In supported games that means better reflections, lighting and shadows without dropping to 30 FPS.

4. Better cooling and more storage

The Pro uses a bigger cooling system to handle the faster GPU and comes with a 2TB SSD, which matters because big games now take 100GB or more each.

What it does not change

  • There are no Pro-only games. Every game runs on both consoles.
  • Games that are not patched for the Pro see only small gains.
  • On a 1080p TV or monitor, most of the Pro’s advantage is lost.

About FPS numbers: Our earlier draft of this article had an FPS table written before the PS5 Pro was released. Many of those numbers did not match how the games actually run (several of those games are locked at 60 FPS on console), so we have removed it rather than publish wrong figures. The right way to judge the Pro is game by game: check whether a game is “PS5 Pro Enhanced” and what its Pro mode offers.

The Big India Problem: Warranty and Service

Because the PS5 Pro is not officially sold here, every unit in India is an import. This brings real risks:

  • No Sony India warranty. If it fails, authorised service centres may not repair it under warranty.
  • Region and power differences. Imported units usually work fine on Indian 230V power, but check the plug and adapter.
  • Price markup. You pay much more than the US price after taxes and seller margins.

The PS5 Pro was reportedly listed on India’s BIS certification database in March 2026, which usually happens before a launch, but Sony has not announced any India date or price. If you really want a Pro, it is safer to wait for an official launch.

Pros and Cons

PS5 Slim

  • Pros: Official India warranty and service, plays every PS5 game, Disc Edition lets you buy cheaper used discs, smaller and quieter than the original PS5.
  • Cons: Prices have risen sharply in 2026, 1TB fills up fast, weaker ray tracing, often a choice between sharp 30 FPS and softer 60 FPS.

PS5 Pro

  • Pros: Best console graphics right now, 60 FPS with sharper image in Enhanced games, PSSR upscaling, 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7.
  • Cons: Not officially sold in India, no Sony India warranty, very expensive as an import, no disc drive in the box, benefit depends on game patches.

Which One Should You Buy?

Buyer profile Recommended Why
Casual gamer PS5 Slim Same games for much less money
Upgrading from PS4 PS5 Slim Huge jump already, with official warranty
1080p TV or monitor PS5 Slim The Pro’s extra power is mostly wasted at 1080p
Budget-conscious buyer PS5 Slim Disc Used and cheaper physical games save money over time
4K 120Hz TV owner who wants the best PS5 Pro (after official launch) Sharper image at 60 FPS and better ray tracing
Streamer or content creator PS5 Pro (after official launch) Cleaner, more stable footage in supported games

Also think about whether a console is right at all. At around ₹70,000 you are close to the cost of a decent gaming PC. If you are on a tight budget, a build around a chip like the Ryzen 5 5500GT can play many games without a graphics card, and cloud gaming apps let you try big titles without buying any hardware.

Verdict

The PS5 Pro is the more powerful console, but in India it is hard to recommend in late 2026: it has no official launch, no local warranty and an import price that is far above the US price. The PS5 Slim plays the exact same games, comes with Sony India support, and on a typical Indian TV the difference is smaller than the price gap. Buy the Slim now if you want to play today. If you have a good 4K 120Hz TV and want the best visuals, wait for Sony to launch the Pro officially in India.

FAQs

Is the PS5 Pro available in India?

Not officially as of October 2026. Sony has not announced an India launch date or price. Units sold online are grey-market imports without Sony India warranty.

What is the PS5 Pro price in India?

There is no official price. Imported units usually sell for ₹80,000 to over ₹1 lakh. For reference, the US price is $899.99 after Sony’s April 2026 price hike.

Does the PS5 Pro come with a disc drive?

No. The PS5 Pro is digital-only out of the box. You can add the same detachable disc drive used by the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, which costs around ₹13,500 in India.

Can the PS5 Slim play all the same games as the PS5 Pro?

Yes. There are no PS5 Pro-only games. The Pro just runs supported games with a sharper image, better ray tracing or steadier frame rates.

Is the PS5 Pro worth it on a 1080p TV?

Mostly no. Its main advantage is a cleaner 4K image with ray tracing. On a 1080p screen you will see far less difference, so the PS5 Slim is the better value.

Why did PS5 prices go up in 2026?

Sony raised prices worldwide in April 2026, citing global economic pressure, and reports point to rising memory chip costs. Indian retail prices also rose around mid-2026.
