Quick answer: Karbonn is back. The Karbonn Rebel (₹11,999) and Rebel Pro (₹12,499) launched in India on 2 November 2026 and went on sale on Amazon on 4 November. Both use the MediaTek Helio G81 chip, run clean Android 16 and have IP64 dust and splash protection. The Rebel has the bigger 7,000mAh battery. The Pro has a smoother 120Hz screen, a 64MP camera and a 16MP selfie camera. One big catch: both phones are 4G only. If you want a phone that will last you 3–4 years, a 5G phone at the same price is usually the smarter buy.
Below you’ll find the full specs, the price and offers, how the two phones differ, and which phones to look at instead. All details are from the launch coverage and were cross-checked on 5 November 2026. We have not tested these phones ourselves.

Is the Karbonn Rebel 4G or 5G?
It is 4G only. A few websites have called these phones “Rebel 5G” and “Rebel Pro 5G”, but that is wrong. MediaTek’s own page for the Helio G81 lists only 4G LTE and dual 4G VoLTE. There is no 5G modem in this chip. Reports say Karbonn is working on a separate Rebel 5G, but there is no launch date or price for it yet.
Why this matters: Jio and Airtel have pushed 5G across most Indian cities, and by 2025 almost 9 out of 10 new phones sold in India were 5G phones (CMR India data, as quoted by TechTimes). 4G will keep working for years, but at ₹11,000–12,500 you can already get proper 5G phones, so a 4G phone needs a strong reason to win.
What’s Good About the Karbonn Rebel Series
Clean Android 16 with no bloatware
This is Karbonn’s main selling point. Many budget phones come with pre-installed apps, lock-screen ads and “recommended” notifications. Karbonn says the Rebel phones ship with stock-style Android 16 and zero bloatware. If you are buying a phone for a parent or someone who gets confused by ads and pop-ups, that is a real plus.
Big batteries
The regular Rebel’s 7,000mAh battery is among the largest at this price. Paired with an HD+ screen and a power-efficient chip, it should last well over a day for most people. The Pro’s 6,000mAh battery is also more than enough. Charging is slow though: 18W and 20W mean a full charge will take a long time.
IP64 and a headphone jack
IP64 means the phone is dust-tight and can handle splashes and light rain. It is not meant to go underwater. The 3.5mm headphone jack is also nice to have, because many phones are dropping it.
What’s Not So Good
An old, slow chip
The Helio G81 is an entry-level 4G chip with two Cortex-A75 cores, six Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. It’s fine for WhatsApp, YouTube, calls, UPI and light social media. It is not a gaming chip. Games like BGMI and Free Fire MAX should run, but expect low graphics settings.
HD+ screens
Both screens are HD+ LCD, not Full HD and not AMOLED. That is normal under ₹12,000, but some rivals at a similar price have sharper or brighter panels.
Only 2 years of updates
Two years of OS upgrades and two years of security patches is okay for a budget phone, but Samsung gives its cheap phones much longer support. Karbonn is also a returning brand, so service centre coverage in your city is worth checking before you buy.
Karbonn Rebel vs Rebel Pro: Which One to Pick?
- Pick the Rebel (₹11,999) if battery life is all you care about. The 7,000mAh battery is the main reason to buy it, and it costs ₹500 less.
- Pick the Rebel Pro (₹12,499) if you want a smoother 120Hz screen, a brighter display, a better 64MP camera and a proper 16MP selfie camera. For just ₹500 more, the Pro is the better all-rounder for most people.
Better 5G Alternatives Around the Same Price
If you can stretch your budget a little, these 5G phones from our best 5G phones under ₹15,000 list are worth a look (prices checked on 30 October 2026, so they may have moved by ₹1,000–2,000):
| Phone | Price (around) | Chip | Battery | Why consider it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OPPO K14x 5G | ₹13,000–15,000 | Dimensity 6300 | 6,500mAh, 45W | 5G, big battery and much faster charging |
| Samsung Galaxy M17e 5G | ₹13,500–15,000 | Dimensity 6300 | 6,000mAh, 25W | 5G and six years of updates |
| Moto G37 | ₹14,000 | Dimensity 6400 | 5,200mAh, 20W | 5G and clean Motorola software |
These cost about ₹1,500–2,500 more than the Rebel Pro, but they give you 5G, a newer chip and, in Samsung’s case, much longer software support. If your budget goes higher, see our best phones under ₹20,000 guide.
Who Should Buy the Karbonn Rebel or Rebel Pro?
- Buy it if: you want a simple, ad-free phone for calls, WhatsApp, YouTube and UPI; you’re buying for a parent or as a second phone; you live where 5G coverage is still weak; or you want to support an Indian brand.
- Skip it if: you play games, want 5G speeds, plan to keep the phone for 3–4 years, or want fast charging.
Verdict
The Karbonn Rebel and Rebel Pro are a decent comeback for a brand many Indians remember from the early smartphone days. Clean Android 16, big batteries, IP64 and a headphone jack make them easy, no-fuss phones. But the Helio G81 chip and 4G-only network hold them back in late 2026, when 5G phones start only a little higher. Our take: the Rebel Pro is the better pick of the two, and it makes sense as a simple phone for parents or a backup device. For your main phone, a 5G option like the OPPO K14x or Galaxy M17e is the safer long-term buy.
