At CES 2024, Google and Samsung have teamed together to launch Quick Share, a rebranded version of both companies’ file-sharing apps that works across Android devices. This replaces Google’s Nearby Share with Samsung’s Quick Share. It was announced that the services had been merged, allowing Android and Chromebook users to default to peer-to-peer content sharing. Furthermore, Google is collaborating with hardware makers to include Quick Share as a Windows PC pre-installed software.

By tapping an icon, users of Quick Share may view a list of nearby devices accessible for sharing. Users can adjust their privacy settings in Quick Share, much like Apple’s AirDrop, to decide who may discover their Android device and share files. Current Nearby Share-enabled devices will begin to receive the Quick Share functionality in February 2024, according to Google’s blog post summarizing its CES announcements.

Chromecast to Use Fast Pair

Chromecast will be able to use Fast Pair with Google TV starting next month, and more Google TV devices will do the same later this year, according to Google. With Fast Pair, all it takes is one touch in pairing mode to link Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and other devices to Android phones and Chromebook computers. With the very recent version, you can now easily send TV sound to your headphones or Bluetooth speakers.

More Casting Options

The Chromecast front is seeing further improvements. Users already have the option to cast videos from YouTube and other applications to their TVs, and Google is only adding additional apps to the list. Casting videos from TikTok to Chromecast-enabled devices is now a thing. The business also promised that users would soon be able to stream live footage directly from the social networking app to their televisions.

Additionally, a new casting function is being rolled out by Google that enables users to cast podcasts and music from the YouTube Music and Spotify applications on compatible Pixel phones to a nearby docked Pixel Tablet.

Interoperability

With Matter, its standard for smart home platforms, applications, and devices, Google provides enhanced interoperability across devices. Some Google TV and Android TV OS devices, as well as LG TVs, will be able to function as Google Home hubs in the future. Homeowners with a Nest Hub, Nest Mini, or compatible TV may easily connect Matter devices to their home network and manage them locally using the Google Home app.

More from Android Auto

Lastly, Android Auto will also be receiving updates. According to Google, electric vehicles compatible with Android Auto will shortly be able to transmit real-time battery data to Google Maps. This function will recommend stopping along the way, giving you an idea of how long it will take to charge your device and your battery life when you get there.

Google’s Unified Quick Share, Fast Pair for TVs, and Android updates are going to make your life easier and simplified. What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments. For more such updates on CES 2024, you can count on Adi4u always.
