Apple Pay and contactless payments on the iPhone 6 launched in 2014, thus Google may have felt compelled to advertise the fact that Android phones already featured tap-to-pay functionality.
For contactless payments, Android Pay was the clear winner, but as an alternative to third-party payment services like PayPal, Venmo and Cash App, Google Wallet remained in use. You only had to input a connected email address or phone number to give money to friends and relatives.
A Google Wallet Card may be used to make in-store payments or withdraw cash from an ATM, or you can withdraw the money straight from your bank account. Google Wallet was later combined with Android Pay and the Google Wallet Card was no longer available.
