How do I enable the ultimate Performance Power Plan in Windows 10

Published:

Microsoft has introduced the “Ultimate Performance” power scheme to Windows 10 April 2018 Update. It’s based on the High Performance power scheme, but is attempting to squeeze out every bit of performance it can. This is how you can enable it.

What’s what is the Ultimate Performance Power Plan?

Its Ultimate Performace power plan is created to provide an additional boost to systems that are high-powered (think servers and workstations) by optimizing the High-Performance power program. It’s designed with the intention of reducing or eliminating micro-latencies resulting from sophisticated power management techniques. Micro-latency refers to the small delay between when your OS detects that the hardware requires more power, and when it is able to provide the required power. While it may be just a fraction of an second, it may have a major impact.

This Ultimate Performance plan eliminates the monitoring of the hardware to determine what it needs to be powered up and allows the hardware use everything it requires. Furthermore, any features that save power are turned off to boost performance even further. This is why machines powered by batteries do not have this option by default, since it could use more energy and destroy your battery more quickly.

This Ultimate Performance plan improves speed for systems that have hardware that continuously changes between idle and inactive state. However, when you’re playing an activity, all of your hardware has already been working to create a world surrounding you. The only significant improvement could occur at the start-up stage but you could only be able to see an increase of a few frames per second. But, if you’re using video editing and 3D design software that is loading up your system, you could be able to see a bigger improvement.

A caveat must be noted in this regard. The activation of this profile will boost the amount of energy your system uses If you intend to use this plan in your notebook, be sure that you have a power source every time.

How to Enable the Ultimate Performance Power Plan

Hit Windows+I to open the Settings app and then click the “System” category.

On the System page, click the “Power & Sleep” tab on the left. On the right, click the “Additional Power Settings” link under the “Related Settings” section.

In the window that pops up, click “Show Additional Plans” and then click the “Ultimate Performance” option.

If you’re using a laptop, this option may not appear under this section.

Code
=powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

What Should You Do If You Can’t Find The Ultimate Performance Plan

On certain devices (mostly on laptops however, there are also certain desktops) it is possible that you don’t have an Ultimate Performance plan in your settings application. If not then you can enable it using a simple PowerShell command or Command Prompt as well as a PowerShell command. The command is identical for both shells and you can use the one you’d like to use.
