Updated 3D Facebook and Messenger avatars were made available to Indian users by Meta on Tuesday. Avatars for Instagram were launched for the first time by the firm. New avatars are “more expressive, more customized and varied,” according to the internet giant.
Updated 3D avatars for Facebook and Messenger as well as Instagram Stories and Direct Messages (DMs) will be available starting today, according to the firm. It is expected that these avatars will be used by users in a wide variety of ways, including as a Facebook profile photo or a sticker in other apps.

New face features and support gadgets for those with impairments are also being considered, according to meta. Colorful Cochlear implants as well as Oticon hearing aides are now available in 3D avatars, which may also be used in virtual reality. For Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram direct messages (DMs), you’ll be able to use wheelchairs as avatars. Additional options will be added in the future based on user feedback, the business stated.
The existing avatars are also getting a facelift from Facebook’s parent firm. Certain face forms and skin colours have been tweaked in an effort to make avatars appear more lifelike. In addition, the corporation announced that it will keep improving the current avatars. Throughout the year of 2021, Meta has introduced additional eyes and noses, beards and haircuts, clothing, physique kinds, and many more.
Meta’s India Director and Head Partnerships, Manish Chopra noted that “representations in the metaverse should mirror the variety of the actual world.” Avatars are merely the beginning of a journey that will eventually allow everyone to express themselves freely. Avatars may be created with a variety of face traits, body kinds, clothing choices, and more. There are more than a quintillion possible combinations in our upgraded avatars, and we’re always adding more to allow users even greater freedom of expression.”
