Microsoft to introduce Microsoft Edge Photos app-like features in Windows 11

Published:

Microsoft Edge’s bloatware scandal remains a hot topic and it appears like the firm is working on a handful of new capabilities for the browser that may fall under this category for certain consumers. Windows 11’s default browser is now slated to acquire Microsoft Photos app-like functionality.

As you’re surely aware, Windows 11 already comes with a new Photos app and it’s more than enough for easy editing. Microsoft is integrating capabilities from the Photos app to the Chromium-based Edge browser and anybody may experience the browser’s image editing tools by right-clicking on the photo.

However, users have expressed their fear that introducing such a potentially resource-heavy function might slow down the browser and put extra load on older devices, especially those running Windows 11. Since the picture editing capability is embedded into the browsing, it cannot be removed.

A deeper look at Microsoft Edge’s picture editing features

Microsoft Edge already comes with a web capture capability that enables you to snap screenshots of online apps. In a future update, you may right-click on any image and edit it before saving it to the desktop.

For example, when you right-click on any image and pick the ‘edit’ option in the context menu, Edge will launch its own built-in editor with various capabilities identical to those currently present in the Windows Photos app. Of course, only basic tools are provided within the browser’s picture editing tool.

This includes the ability to trim an image, modify brightness, and exposure, and even comment on the pictures with different tools. You may also add filters, and annotate with other tools.

The new image editing features are available in Microsoft Edge’s Canary Channel and you can try your luck by downloading the current Canary version from the company’s official website. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft tests these capabilities in waves, so it’s not available for everyone.

Microsoft Edge has received more updates

Microsoft Edge will be updated with a number of new features and tools, including a calculator, unit converter, and speed test, expanding the browser’s already extensive set of capabilities.

“Easily access regularly used tools as you explore the web, including Calculator, Internet speed test, and Unit converter,” the plan states.

You may already access these tools in Microsoft Edge Canary. Calculators, dictionaries, unit converters, and more are just some of the tools that are available to you with Edge 105.

In addition to these enhancements, Microsoft Edge is also gaining a new feature that enables you to double-click on any tab to shut it.
