As it continues to test this new tool to bring quality enhancements outside of the main Windows feature upgrades, Microsoft has issued another Windows 11 Update Stack Package. Microsoft’s Update Stack Packages are designed to reduce the frequency and severity of problems caused by certain updates during the installation process.
Microsoft has begun rolling out the Update Stack Package to everyone with Build 22478 and later this year. Microsoft has issued “Update Stack Package 1022.705.1011.0,” but a changelog is unavailable, so it is unclear how many bug fixes and feature enhancements were included.
One of the blog entries from earlier this year mentioned that “The Update Stack Package will assist guarantee that your PC has the maximum possibility of properly installing new updates with the best and least disruptive experience available.”

It appears that only users on the Dev Channel will receive today’s Update Stack Package 1022.705.1011.0. After the autumn release of Windows 11 version 22H2 (Sun Valley 2), Update Stack Packages are expected to make their way into the production channel.
Even though the specifics of how Update Stack Packages will enhance the Windows Update experience have not yet been revealed, Microsoft has stated that the packages would be released to enhance stability when a monthly or feature update is imminent.
For this reason, smaller updates are known as “update stack packages” will be sent ahead of larger cumulative updates. Stack package installation prior to the primary cumulative update has been shown to reduce the number of installation failures.
Microsoft is currently only allowing testing of this functionality in preview releases available through the Dev Channel, and only a small collection of unknown enhancements are shipping at this time. If this is successful, it will be sent to computers running Windows 11 21H2 (the first release).
