Windows 11 beta testers will soon be able to use Android applications on Microsoft’s latest operating system. Windows 11 beta testers will get access to an early version of the Windows Subsystem for Android, which will allow them to use apps from the Amazon Appstore. There will be no difference in the performance of Android apps while running under Windows 11.
Various programs may be downloaded through the Microsoft Store, which then directs users to the Amazon Appstore to download and install the software. Android applications can coexist with Windows programs in Alt+Tab and Task view, and they can be pinned to the Start menu or the taskbar from within the operating system.
Android applications alerts may be shown in the Action Center, and your clipboard can be shared between a Windows app and an Android app, according to the Android on Windows 11 team. ‘We’ve designed the experience with accessibility in mind,’ says Amazon. ‘Many Windows accessibility options also apply to Android applications.’
Microsoft and Amazon have created a collection of 50 Windows Insider-exclusive apps for Windows 11 beta testers. Games like Lords Mobile, Junes Journey, and Coin Master fall under the “mobile games” category. There are also educational applications like Khan Academy Kids and Lego Duplo World for readers like Kindle.
Over 3 million applications are accessible on Google Play alone, and even Amazon’s Appstore has over a half-million options. Until this functionality is widely released for Windows 11, it’s unclear how many Android applications will be available.
Windows 11 now supports Android apps thanks to a Microsoft component. AOSP version 11 is used as the foundation for Android Open Source Project (OS). It operates on a Hyper-V virtual machine just like the Windows Subsystem for Linux, according to the Windows 11 team working on Android apps. “It knows how to translate AOSP programs’ runtime and APIs to the Windows visual layer, memory buffers, input modes, and real and virtual devices and sensors.”
Microsoft has worked with Intel to allow Arm-only programs to run on AMD and Intel devices thanks to this subsystem.
While Windows 11’s Beta Channel only supports Android applications for now, Microsoft expects to roll out a Dev Channel peek “down the road” as well. To use the Amazon Appstore, your Windows 11 PC must be configured to the United States region in the Beta Channel and have an Amazon account with a billing address in the United States.
