Microsoft: Windows 8.1 will not get support after January 10, 2023

Published:

After a few more months, Microsoft is going to stop providing support for Windows 8.1. The firm has previously indicated that individuals who are running this version of Windows would no longer receive updates for it beginning on January 10, 2023, and this information is available on their website. The software giant has reportedly begun issuing reminders for the same thing to those who are now using Windows 8.1. The news was first reported by The Verge.

If you are using Microsoft 365 after January 10, you will no longer receive updates for the Office applications. This includes changes to functionality, security, and other quality updates. “We recommend updating Windows 8 or 8.1 to a supported operating system in order to continue receiving Microsoft 365 product updates,” the tech giant wrote on its support page. “Doing so will allow you to continue receiving product updates.”

On January 12, 2016, Microsoft ceased providing support for their Windows 8 operating system. Users of Windows 8.1 have a good bit of time left, but they should be aware that once this operating system approaches the date when Microsoft will no longer provide support for it, the Microsoft 365 applications won’t function correctly. Users are being encouraged by the corporation to upgrade to a more recent version of Windows in order to avoid any potential problems with the system’s performance or stability.

You may easily update to Windows 10 on your personal computer even if it is running an outdated version of Windows. Additionally, Windows 11 has been made public by Microsoft. However, it is highly unlikely that any device running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 would be able to satisfy the hardware requirements for upgrading to Windows 11.

You will be required to utilise the Windows 10 operating system if your machine does not satisfy the minimum system requirements for the most recent version. Please be aware that Microsoft will only continue to provide support for Windows 10 until the year 2025. According to Microsoft’s official website, the company is no longer providing Windows 10 as a free upgrade and now requires users to pay Rs 10,379 for a licence to use the operating system. If one feels that their current computer should be upgraded to a newer model, another option is to look into purchasing a new personal computer that is compatible with Windows 11.
