Microsoft’s plans for ads-supported PCs could not be a bad idea.

Skip or not skip?

In a time where worldwide PC sales are declining What should the computing giant Microsoft look at to maintain its profits? Affordable cloud-connected systems, that are paid for through subscriptions and advertisements Of course!

In a variety of jobs posted in the Windows site’s job listings, including this one. Windows website – including this closed posting(opens in a new tab) for an engineer for software from earlier in the year – Microsoft is seeking engineers to join the team which will “build an entirely fresh direction for Windows in a world that is cloud-first”.

The job posting there is the potential for low cost PC models that can be rented that include advertising in order to help cover some of the cost. There was a hint of this possibility by the CEO Satya Nadella when responding to remarks made by financial analysts during Microsoft’s earnings call on Oct. 25. In responding to questions about Microsoft’s future plans, Nandella said one goal could be to incorporate an emphasis on the inclusion of ads into the services offered by Microsoft.

Advertising is everywhere, and we’ve all accepted this fact. We laugh and endure the monotonous and sometimes irritating sequence of skits and jingles that cause the minute or so-long interruption from our television or video so detested. When we think of Netflix as well as its “basics without ads’ tier, even if we think we’re free advertisements pop up. Therefore, it wouldn’t make sense for Microsoft to think about low-cost computers that are backed by subscriptions and advertisements.

The knee-jerk reaction here is to become completely angry and be tempted the keyboard to be eaten since yet again, we could receive advertisements for items which don’t need advertising. If we take a step back perhaps we can be able to see this as a positive thing in the event that Microsoft is able to move forward with the concept in a sensible way.

The internet is a hyper-connected world, and the concept is that communities or individuals who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have the money to buy a good PC can be able to access technology for less. Of course, this will depend on what the cost of subscription could be (if it comes to realization) however, if you can obtain an installation and all you need to do is deal with just a couple of ads, it might be beneficial.
