Ring has added support for video encryption end-to-end on its battery-powered devices.

The advanced encryption feature is now available to Ring’s security and video doorbell cameras lineup–except(Opens in a new window) the less expensive Ring Video Doorbell Wired–meaning that the owner of the gadget should be the only one to have access to the footage recorded not other third parties, such as the police.

“We believe we should offer a full range of privacy options to as many customers as possible,” Amazon-owned Ring announced in an online post(Opens in a new window). “And we know that different devices make sense for different living situations.”

After a technical preview in the US at the beginning of 2017, Ring began rolling out advanced encryption globally in July 2021 for non-battery powered devices. Users must sign up to the feature and it comes with some drawbacks including disabling shared browsing web, desktop or website access, and also the usage of multiple mobile devices.

The company today Ring has also announced two brand new methods for saving videos when users get the new Ring device. The deactivated Device State lets users save their events without having to download them manually prior to taking down their old device while a brand new remove Device Flow feature lets them save or delete videos before taking the device off the Ring account.

The parent company Amazon has announced last month the creation of a new television series syndicated to other networks, Ring Nation, set to premiere on Sept. 26. It will include clips that are shared by viewers via their homes security cameras as well as doorbells that record video. The show, which is with comedian Wanda Sykes, will present the fisheye view on “neighbors saving neighbors, marriage proposals, military reunions, and silly animals.”
