Sony states that they have solved PlayStation 5 shortage is over

There’s a good chance that the PlayStation 5 shortage is finally over, at least , according to Sony. “Everyone who is looking to buy to own a PS5 will have an more easy time finding one in retailers around the world from now,” said Jim Ryan who is the gaming director of the company during the CES presentation. The company also revealed that it’s sold about 30 million consoles as of the moment. It’s about five million higher than last time they released figures in November.

It’s taken a long time getting up to this point. The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2022 when we declared it “almost affordable to purchase.” For the majority of its existence it was necessary to be extremely fortunate, a bit on the ball with drops or make a payment to scalpers and Best Buy much over the MSRP of the console. Up until recently, the only method of getting it was through a $550 bundle that comprised the PS5 with disk drive as well as a game which is fine if you’re already planning to purchase Horizon Forbidden West or God of War Ragnarok however it’s is a significant price increase when you’re hoping for an $399.99 PlayStation 5 digital console.

At the time of the presentation Ryan expressed his gratitude to PlayStation players for their patience while the company “managed the unprecedented demand in the face of worldwide challenges in the last 2 years.”

At the time of the writing of this article, Best Buy and GameStop have both versions of the console listed as being out of inventory on their stores online although they do say that at the very least one of its stores in my region is carrying the regular version available. The direct store of Sony lets customers add the digital version to your cart when you sign up, however the disc version is not available (unless you’re planning to purchase an additional God of War bundle).

We hope that Sony will not face the same issues of availability with it launches the PlayStation VR2 headset launches in February.
