WhatsApp’s lets users transfer chats from Android to iPhone

Published:

WhatsApp is releasing a new version that finally allows users to move their chats from Android cellphones to Apple’s iOS devices. This option will be made accessible to new iPhone users during the setup process as part of Apple’s “transition to iOS” software. Existing Apple iPhone users will need to create a backup and perform a factory reset to utilise this update. Meta’s CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, made the news on his blog on Tuesday evening.

“We’ve added the ability to safely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, images, videos, and voice chats across Android and iPhone while retaining end-to-end encryption to the WhatsApp platform. That capability has been widely demanded. Last year, we introduced the opportunity to move from an iPhone to an Android device, and we’re now include an Android device as an option.” The founder and CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg

Since there was no mechanism to move WhatsApp data across Android and iPhones before recently, this was much anticipated. There are some third-party tools on the market, but they aren’t trustworthy. Starting today, the beta version of WhatsApp will have the new functionality, and everyone will have access to it within a week.

To use the functionality, an Android device must be running Android 5 or later, and an iOS device must be running iOS 15.5 or later. Aside from that, all that’s required from consumers is that they keep their phones charged and on the same Wi-Fi network. Users will need to connect their Android handset to the iPhone’s hotspot if they are not using the same Wi-Fi network.

WhatsApp says the software cannot read user communications since the entire process is encrypted. Unless the user deletes their WhatsApp account or does a factory reset, all of the data from the previous Android phone will remain intact.
