Windows 11’s brand new File Explorer with tabs support will be available soon, possibly following 22H2

This calendar year Microsoft revealed a variety of new capabilities that will be coming into Windows 11 as part of the 2022 update. These new functions include capability to perform specific actions by simply selecting the text within applications like Teams and tabs in Explorer. The tabbed File Explorer is available for testing, but the majority of users are eager to give it a the test.

The integration of tabs is among the biggest features updates for File Explorer in years. The user interface that users use to access File Explorer has largely remained unchanged since the launch in Windows 8. With the Windows 11 update coming up, Microsoft is adding tabs and a brand new homepage view in File Explorer.

With tabs integration, you can quickly work with several directories and folders the new File Explorer home view lets you look at your most frequently used files, including photos and documents stored on OneDrive. We’ve had the opportunity to test this feature using the help of a third-party program called “ViveTool,” but it’s not accessible to most users who are part of the Insider program.

The situation has changed, and Microsoft is now pushing tabs to users in the Windows Insider Program, as Microsoft is currently preparing the feature for its fall 2022 launch.

But, it’s not yet officially be released for anyone on the channel of production.

There are reports the possibility that Windows 11 version 22H2 will arrive in the final month of September in 2022 with a larger rollout planned for the months of October and November. As of now, it seems the File Explorer with tabs won’t be included in the final version of the upcoming feature update.

Support for tabs is currently not present in the RTM version for Windows 11 22H2. What’s happening? It seems that Microsoft plans to enable tabs integration within File Explorer via upcoming cumulative updates, after the release the Windows 11 version 22,H2 this September.

This implies that File Explorer tabs support will come later likely in November or October.
